Rome
Cindy and I.
Ahhh, I intentionally did NOT see all that I wanted to see...now I have an excuse to return!
I did arrive a few days earlier, got to see my niece, Cindy (she lives with her wonderful Italian hubby and kids in Ancona, Italy).
Leaving the metropolis of El Paso on Friday, I had tested my camera. It was a "starter" Nikon, but this is the camera that followed me through-out Asia, and had helped spark my interest in photography (still very much a work-in-progress, but as you'll see, there are a few cool shots). After checking into the hotel, I stroll to St. Mary Basilica
http://www.rome.info/basilicas/santa-maria-maggiore/ camera in hand.
SNAP...nothing..SNAP SNAP SNAP...nothing nothing nothing....
Error message on the screen. Drats. Take out the batteries, jiggle this, jaggle that. SNAP.
RIP camera. I quickly learned "Dove e un foto ottica?" (Where is a camera store?) ... eventually found an open one on Monday...after my niece (fluent in Italian of course) had left to go back to Ancona. With my limited Italian, and the camera store owners limited English,we did a lot of pointing and laughing we finally made a deal. In Rome I had hoped to buy a lovely Italian leather coat, but ended up buying a camera. With travel, one learns to go with the flow.... So enjoy the "flow" of the photo's, the early ones of with my back-up cheap camera, hopefully the photos' at the end are a smdige better with the new camera....
